They say you can’t go anywhere without bumping into an Irish person but you might be safe in thinking that a Norwegian talent show might be the exception. Not so. And it’s because of magician Denis Stone. Last Friday, viewers of Norway’s Got Talent watched the Rathcoole man get the coveted four yeses from the judges, progressing from the audition stage to the competition itself. Denis joined Ryan on The Ryan Tubridy Show to explain how he ended up on the Norwegian-language show.
Fittingly for the week that’s in it, Denis’ success on the show is the result of a love story. He met his partner, Thalin, an Oslo native, when she was studying in Ireland. That was 10 years ago and now the couple have two daughters and are based in Norway.
“They say the Scandinavian women don’t move so I had decisions to make. I moved over to Oslo then and we’ve got now two beautiful children. So, a bit like yourself, Ryan. It’s a house full of girls here.“
He told Ryan his strategy for the show isn’t too complex.
“I just tried to be myself, as best I could, you know. I’m doing magic for a long time and I just try to bring, I suppose, the Irish humour into it…I was just hoping they’d like it. I wasn’t sure how they’d react. Thankfully, they seemed to like it.”
Ryan thinks a visit to Norway might be on the cards and asked Denis if it was expensive.
“Not for you, Ryan!“
