As heard on The Isolated Ear

The producer of The Curious Ear documentary series, Ronan Kelly, has been sent a selection of clips by RTÉ Radio Archives to help ease the isolation.

He’s sharing some of them with the RTÉ Radio 1 Highlights page.

In June 1961, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco visited Ireland.  Raidió Éireann had a live broadcast from The Gresham Hotel on O’Connell Street in Dublin.

Kevin O’Kelly was downstairs with the assembled invitees in the Aberdeen Hall ballroom of the hotel but Caroline Mitchell was on the roof of the hotel, in the penthouse suite, where the Princess was getting ready for the evening.

We don’t hear from the Prince or Princess but Caroline’s presentation has us right there in the room and, as often with these clips, listen for the last line.
