Journalist Mark Simpson spoke with Ryan Tubridy about the case of Shannon Matthews.
Her story is currently at the centre of BBC dramatisation “The Moorside” focusing on the hoax kidnapping of the 9 year old in 2008.
Mark was the first journalist to get an interview with her mother Karen at the time.
“I looked in to her eyes and I saw a traumatised mother”
He explains that, around the time that Shannon was found, suspicion was raised, specifically around Karen.
“She lied, lied and lied again and I fell for it hook, line and sinker…”
The young girl was discovered after being held at the home of a relative of Karen’s partner for almost a month. The concluding part of the television dramatisation airs tonight.
